Things to do at Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau

  • Admire the building's attractive exteriors as you stroll: Gardens surround the hospital wards, and their brick facades are covered in extravagant, detailed polychrome ceramic tile roofs. The most striking features include domes, roofs, façades, sculptures, and stained-glass windows. The Sant Rafael Pavilion's interior is also accessible, and you may view it just as it was intended to be at the turn of the 20th century. You can also travel through the underground tunnels connecting several buildings to see the Administration Pavilion's most iconic historic areas.

  • When you visit this spectacular complex, you can learn about history, art, and the present: The site of the former hospital is now a campus for knowledge and the global headquarters of several organizations, including the European Forest Institute, Casa Sia, the Global University Network for Innovation, and the United Nations University Institute on Globalization, Culture, and Mobility.

  • Feed your intellect here: The Sant Manuel Pavillion currently houses the Casa sia, a comprehensive source for research on the cultures and economics of all the Asian nations, with library collections of books, movies, and music from each of theM.

  • Thoughtful planning at its best for service to humanity: Domènech, who also believed in the curative powers of shape and color, embellished the hospital with sculptures by Pau Gargallo and vibrant mosaics featured several symbols of hope, healing, and healthy growth.

  • To provide a better atmosphere than in the previous medieval hospitals, the goal of this venue was to build a unique healthcare center with lots of natural light, fresh air, and a natural setting. Nearly a kilometer long, Gaud Avenue is flanked by lovely modernist street lighting and opens onto the Sant Pau hospital at its peak. It is a huge garden area with numerous pavilions that has hosted a hospital since it was built.

  • Understand the scope and utility of the site back in time: The Sant Salvador Pavilion's display area takes you on a tour of Barcelona's medical past and the legacy of one of the continent's oldest hospitals. Domènech I Montaner designed this pavilion and the ten others that surround it. The pavilions are connected by a network of basements and surrounded by gardens.

  • Admire the building's attractive exteriors as you stroll: The most striking features include domes, roofs, façades, sculptures, and stained-glass windows. The entrance pavilion features a plain brick façade embellished with capitals, stone figures of angels created by the sculptor Pau Gargallo, and mosaics with historical themes. A tall tower with a clock tops it off.
