THINGS TO DO AT TEMPLE OF SACRED RELIC:

• Understand the cultural relevance of the treasure it holds:

It is known worldwide as a place of prayer where the left canine tooth of Lord Buddha is revered and kept as a relic.

Every day, tens of thousands of pilgrims dressed in white make their way to this sacred area, carrying lotus flowers and frangipani for the pujas or offerings and prayers they will do once they arrive.

• Admire the beauty of art and architecture:

The architecture is a one-of-a-kind style that can only be found in Kandy, and it is a blend of the one-of-a-kind style that was utilised in the construction of 'Dalada Mandira,' the shrines that formerly housed the Sacred Tooth Relic in other kingdoms. Ivory, gold, silver, and bronze are some materials used in the elaborate carvings covering the temple.

• Stand witness to the Esala Perahera ceremony:

The festival, which lasts for ten days, is not only the most important but also one of the most important Buddhist celebrations held anywhere in the world.

Even though the sacred tooth relic is locked away in a golden shrine, tourists and devotees point to the temple during the ceremony to get a glimpse of the well-guarded inner shrine.

• Soak in beautiful views that lie below:

The temple is situated close to the complex that housed the royal palace in the days when Kandy was the capital of the Kingdom of Kandy. Consider staying back and embracing the breathtaking views of the expansive Kandy Lake.
