A must-see museum in Lisbon is Museu Coleção Berardo. It is the largest center for contemporary art. The Museum exhibits the most important creative trends from the twentieth century to the current day while housing the Berardo Collection. Artworks by creators from the broadest range of cultural backgrounds and artistic styles, all of whom would go on to contribute to the formation of the twentieth century, may be found in this Museum.

The Museum has a colossal permanent collection and also hosts temporary exhibitions that change regularly. Over 1000 works of art are arranged strictly linearly, leading visitors through a line of rooms with austere white walls. A display of notable works of modern art with explanatory text offers a textbook-like survey of art.

The Museum Educational Service provides a comprehensive program of activities for schools and universities, children from 2 years old, families, audiences with special educational needs, companies, and adults. It also offers guided tours, holiday activities for children up to 12 years old, birthday parties at the Museum, and weekend activities.

How to explore Museu Coleção Berardo?

  • Historic avant-garde movements such as Cubist Space, Dadaism, Constructivism, Surrealism, Informalism, and Pop Art are represented on the second floor.
  • Collections from the 20th century up to the present are exhibited in detail on floor 1. This collection includes Minimalism, Conceptualism, Arte Povera, and the great variety of approaches that have come to form the present.
  • Throughout this big picture of history, you may find the little stories that defy neat axiomatic summation and instead actualize various possibilities. Each of these stories contributes to the continual production of other expressions and other eras within history.
  • In the context of their works' creative movements, names like Pablo Picasso, Marcel Duchamp, Piet Mondrian, Joan Miró, Max Ernst, Vieira da Silva, Francis Bacon, Andy Warhol, Donald Judd, and Bruce Nauman, among many others, are presented.
