Theatres Romains de Fourviere

In Lyon, France, there is a Roman theatre called the Ancient Theatre of Fourvière. In the heart of the Roman city, on the Fourvière hill, it was constructed. The theatre is a component of the Lyon Historic Center UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The theatre was constructed in two stages: close to the hill, in the year 15 BC, a 90 m-diameter theatre was erected. A final audience area was added to the structure around the start of the second century. There were ten thousand seats available. The theatre still serves as a cultural venue, but it is now largely a tourist destination. The Nuits de Fourvière festival is held in the theatre each year.

The Theatres Romains de Fourvière are the remains of three ancient Roman structures that were formerly present on the Fourvière hill, including a theatre, a second, smaller theatre, and a temple. The Les Nuits de Fourvière, an annual performing arts festival held in June and July, is also held there.

Following a visit to the Basilique Notre Dame de Fourvière, recent visitors advised adding a stop at the Theatres Romains de Fourvière because it is on the way down.

Others remarked on the incredible acoustics and breathtaking surroundings of Lyon. Some others, however, were dissatisfied with the scant signage. A museum is located near to the remains, however all of the exhibits are in French. If you'd like a more in-depth encounter, think about doing some research or hiring a tour guide.

The ruins are open every day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and are free to view. This attraction can be found south of Notre Dame Basilica de Fourvière.
