San Agustin Church, found within the city of Intramuros in Metro Manila, is often regarded as the Philippines' oldest church. The church, which was recently designated as a World Heritage Site, is a prime example of the Baroque style of architecture. The Roman Catholic church, constructed between 1587 and 1606, is home to the San Agustin Museum and the burial places of many notable people from history, including conquistadors, politicians, artists, and more. The huge exterior is decorated with the most exquisite ornate details. The ancient church was a tangible reminder of the four centuries when Spain ruled the country. The current structure is the third one to stand, where seven earlier ones collapsed after big earthquakes.

How to explore San Agustin Church?

- The church's gorgeous back lawns complement the building's stunning design. Visit these lawns during weddings and other festivities when they look flamboyant. Apart from the special days, these lawns are the perfect place to reflect and unwind.

- Visitors are not permitted during Sunday church services. So visit the church on other days of the week to take the feel of the place and pray.

- If you are a history aficionado, this church should be your sightseeing destination for its ancient architecture.

- The Augustinian churches in Mexico served as inspiration for this church's spectacular style. The existing structure, including the attached monastery, was constructed between 1587 and 1604. Pay attention to the fine artistic detailing of the interiors.

- Visit the rooms to admire Trompe l'oeil frescoes on the vaulted ceilings.

- You can also check out the area that features moldings, rosettes, and recessed panels that give the impression of being carved in three dimensions.

- Don't miss out on viewing the baroque pulpit decorated with native pineapples, a big pipe organ, an antechoir housing a crucifix from the 16th century, and a choir crafted from molave and ivory, all of which were brought from Paris.

- San Agustin Museum presents an in-depth look into the church's long and storied past in the Philippines. You will get to see a wide variety of Asian and Western countries represented in the galleries' impressive religious art and antique collections. The antique furniture, drawings of plants, liturgical objects, and pottery deserve your attention.
