Sentier des Douaniers

The Sentier des Douaniers, commonly known as the GR34 long-distance footpath, is an exceptional trail traveling the Breton coastline's length.

This track, recently selected as France's favorite long-distance footpath, is a visual feast for hikers and casual strollers alike.

Starting at Macinaggio in Haute-Corse, hikers can take on this 23.30-kilometer trail. Due to the high volume of visitors who come to this region to go birding, hiking, and backpacking, you may expect to run into other adventurers. In order to go halfway to Barcaggio, the average time required is 6 hours and 31 minutes.

A boat transport service is available throughout the summer to get you back. Also, trail runners should take this route. This path can be taken at any time of year, although spring and fall are the ideal seasons to enjoy it.

How to explore Sentier des Douaniers?

• This climb starts in Macinaggio and travels to Centuri through the Pointe du Cap Corse. It follows the seashore along the customs route. You can hike the entire trek in a day or break it up with a stay in Barcaggio.
• It takes about 6 hours to travel from Macinaggio to Barcaggio. The route has clear signs and provides access to several breathtaking nooks. There is no clear signposting along the unmarked path between Barcaggio and Centuri, and at times the overgrown vegetation makes it difficult to locate the path.
• At the trail's outset, you will have breathtaking panoramas of Elba and Capraia. The walk makes you find lovely natural beaches and allows you to view the wild flora and fauna as well as antique Genoese fortifications.
• Some regions even allow dogs to run free and unleashed.
• Tahiti Beach is a small, practically deserted beach that may be reached by foot. Take a dip on this beach to feel rejuvenated.
• You can see the Pointe du Raz from the Cap de la Chèvre, which offers stunning panoramas of the Bay of Douarnenez and the ocean.
• The Pointe de Pen-Hir is another not-to-be-missed vantage point; just below it is a stunning formation of rocks known as the 'Heap of Peas.'
• Callot Island, accessible at low tide, is only one of the many sights to see on the Carantec Peninsula, which a loop trail may explore.
• The aptly called Pink Granite Coast showcases stunning shapes of rocks with a gorgeous coppery pink glow when they're lit by the dying rays of the sun.
