The National Gallery is located in downtown London's Trafalgar Square and contains the best collection of Western European art of the country from the 13th to the early 20th century.

The most well-known Western European artists represented their collection here. No other art collection tells the story of Western European art as effectively as this one. The 2,300 artworks at the National Gallery are always on display throughout the year.

What to see at the National Gallery?

  • The museum's centerpiece is a collection that includes Van Eyck's Arnolfini Portrait, Velázquez's Rokeby Venus, Turner's Fighting Temeraire, and Van Gogh's Sunflowers.
  • The artwork from the 13th to 15th centuries by Duccio, Uccello, Lippi, Dürer, Mantegna, Botticelli, van Eyck, Memling, and Bellini is quite popular in these galleries.
  • Every significant Western European painting tradition is exhibited here, from Italian Renaissance and late medieval painters to French Impressionists.
  • Among the special collections are works by Leonardo da Vinci, Cranach, Michelangelo, Raphael, Holbein, Bruegel, Bronzino, Titian, and Veronese from the sixteenth century.
  • Diptych by Anonymous in Wilton, one of the rarest and oldest works of art that survived the Puritan purges of the 1600s, is on display in the National Gallery.
  • After being overwhelmed by all you witnessed in the galleries, reward your taste buds at Beijing Dumpling restaurant for some mouth-watering varieties of dumplings.
  • Enjoy your meals at Covent Garden restaurant in the vicinity. One of the fascinating features of this restaurant is that it has a window where you can observe a Bancone making pasta.
  • The meal at Scully will probably make you feel the same way as real works of art do.
  • Old school seafood spot J Sheekey is excellent for some seafood delicacies.
